Sorry I missing you when I was at the paper recently. I received an auto response once I got home saying you were out of town.
I know you're not the political writer at the paper, but wanted to sent you my brief take on it and if you wish to pass it on you can or you can delete it. Also, I do understand there is a real threat to the economy if action is not taken. Understanding this, below is a copy of the letter I sent to both US Senators from NC and our Rep. The remarks about voting would include any Senator or Rep. I will hold this Bailout vote in mind in any future elections regardless of where I live.
I sent a long letter regarding the bailout. This is my stand in brief: Either bailout ALL Americans with Wall Street OR DO NOT bailout Wall Street. I am reasonable and flexible on many things, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
If you vote otherwise, including not voting, I will NEVER vote for you at any level in any election
Thank you
Dan
I emailed the below to Squawk with CNBC, assuming our representatives will once again dismiss views of the people.
Becky, Carl and Joe,
The current problem is blamed on the housing issue, although that is actually just the tip of the iceberg.
The current market problems will not be resolved without resolving the root of the problem: lack of spending power. The USA Today reported the average American wage at just under $29,600 a year, thats about $14.25hr. After bare basics one is left with less than $200 a month assuming the person is single. SEE http://www.dangalpinforpresident.dangalpin.com/page26/page69/page69.html for budget basics.
The only solution I see is an overhaul of the system. Wages must be protected from greed, which has not been done in my life time. Additionally, I've spoken against America's ability to compete in global markets since the idea of free trade. It's not possible for an hourly wage in the USA of $27, $14 or even $8 to compete with .50 cents an hour in China or $2 in Mexico.
My Economy plan is briefly noted on the web: SEE http://www.dangalpinforpresident.dangalpin.com/page2/economic_recovery/economic%20recovery.html
Any Economy is a cycle. The worker needs the employer for a wage and the employer needs the worker to make a product and to buy the company product because the worker is also the consumer. If either abuses his power, the system ENDS. Wages have been declining since the 60s, slowly, and now the consumer is broke, thus the employers are going broke.
Numerous articles regarding this are noted on my site.
God Bless,
Dan Galpin
Larry, on a personal note, I hope you and your family are well.

This email assumes Washington will do the Bailout against the public's outcry:
Dear Power Lunch,
I've been watching your show regarding the bailout and I have a tax payer's view.
We supposedly live in a free market; if so, Wall Street is free to go anywhere for their capital needs and they have chosen to come to me and the rest of the American tax payers. Thus you can pay by our rules and use our money or go somewhere else for your capital. If you wish to talk more regarding this, contact me. I'd be glad to discuss it.
I would require:
CEO caps
equity share (ideally similar to Warren's in GS)
installment payments
Banks pay a fee for the privilege
COLA's attached to wages

While I am NOT in support of Obama, it's not because of his lack of experience! Let's be HONEST for a moment. BOTH the Democrats & Republicans with YEARS of experience have been running this country for longer than I've been alive and BOTH parties have created the disaster we are currently in as a nation. Experience can help at times, but it clearly is NOT the answer or we wouldn't be in the position we currently are. That said, I am equally NOT for McCain! BOTH parties have and WILL continue to BETRAY the American people for their own selfish gain.
It is time to STAND UP and make a TRUE CHANGE: vote BOTH parties out! Here is a link to OTHER parties in our nation.
http://www.dangalpinforpresident.dangalpin.com/page68/page68.html.
Some of the parties currently have candidates running for President, but the bias press refuse to talk about them. Read about them adhere to the one that matches what your stand for and VOTE them in. Not just at the Presidential level, Congress and the Senate too. My fellow Americans RECLAIM our great nation before we become a mere memory in the pages of a history book! Even if it means VOTE NONE OF THE ABOVE (at ALL levels of government).

The first time I read this quote, I thought it was dangerously true. Then I really started pondering it and thought how would this apply to our own lives/careers? Let's look at it again to see how absurd it is. * You couldn't get a job at McDonalds and become district manager after 143 days of experience. * You couldn't become chief of surgery after 143 days of experience of being a surgeon. * You couldn't get a job as a teacher and be the superintendent after 143 days of experience. * You couldn't join the military and become a colonel after a 143 days of experience. * You couldn't get a job as a reporter and become the nightly news anchor after 143 days of experience. BUT.... * 'From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. (That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.) * After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln,FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan. 143 days? We all have to start somewhere. The senate is a good start, but after 143 days, that's all it is - a start. AND, strangely, a large sector of the American public seems to feel comfortable with this and are campaigning for him. We wouldn't accept this in our own line of work, yet some are OK with this for the President of the United States of America? Come on folks, we are not voting for the next American Idol. |

We
can solve the Illegal immigration problem without
offering amnesty to those that have crossed
illegally and without causing a large
economic disturbance.
1) Offer a $1,000 reward to those turning in
current illegals upon successful deportation.
Deportation of their families as well.
2) Seizing any and all property obtained by
illegals while here and selling it with the
proceeds offsetting the cost of the both the
deportation and the nation fence.
3) Expediting the entry of those legally
wanting to enter the nation by offering them the
jobs that the illegals were holding.
4) Fining the companies that have hired the
illegals and fining those aiding their stay whether
individuals, organizations or principalities with
the proceeds offsetting the cost of both
deportation and the nation fence.
5) Maintaining a national list of those
deported and those aiding illegals to increase the
punishment and fines respectively for
additional occurrences. Government
employees receiving a higher fine and
additional penalties.
6) Federal mandate to end all
"sanctuary cities"
with government employees of such

7) Create stuffer punishment those involved in

The
destruction of America continues. The next phase of
NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement) started
recently with Mexican truck companies being allowed
to drive into and through America. This dangerous
for several reasons: 1) Road safety due
to lower standards by Mexican companies in the
trucking industry. 2) It's harmful to the American
economy by allowing a foreign companies
to under cut American wages. 3) It allows an
additional doorway for illegals to enter America.
4) It is disastrous to national
security: terrorist can use it to enter
the country.
It is a waste of time, money and lives to fight a
war on terror in Iraq while allowing our border to
be open for entry by terrorist via
NAFTA. America WILL NOT survive NAFTA or any
free trade agreement that does not protect American
wages. Our government has shown through NAFTA
that they DO NOT represent American's best
interest. They have SOLD OUT their fellow Americans
for power and greed.

Our representatives continue to attach
earmarks to spending bills, thus draining the
treasury of funds that could be spent on
infrastructure. One such example you may have heard
about on the news was in a town in south
east Wisconsin. There's a private, note
PRIVATE, airport that received 2 million for a
runway extension. When asked by reporters why,
the airport official said,
corporate executives couldn't land their jets
with it. LET THE CORPORATIONS PAY for it if
they want it! Or if the state wants to encourage
business development and the state residences don't
mind, let the state pay, BUT NOT the federal
government! Federal spending SHOULD NOT
to be spent on local improvements to please
businesses or local communities. End all
earmarks!

The plain and simple fact is that nations who deal
with criminals, have less crime. Many who oppose
the death penalty say, "what about the one who is
convicted, that's actually innocent?" That is a
legitimate question and it has happened. They also
say, "it does not prevent crime, so why do it?"
Also a legitimate question.
To the second question, It is successfully provable
that the death penalty DOES prevent crime. Thanks
to Police Records we know about 80% of crime is
done by repeat offenders. So if there's 10,000
murder convictions, in time we know there will be
8,000 more by repeat offenders. Yet if those 10,000
persons are put to death, we have 8,000 less
crimes. PLUS, a criminal makes his/her choices
basis on a risk to reward ratio, as do investors,
thus, if the odds of capture equals death, they may
consider other options. There will of course always
be those that think they can beat the system and
for those, we should have the death penalty.
ADDITIONALLY an update regarding the lawyer /
client privilege is needed and you can view my
thoughts on that on the Crime page.
The population can be divided into 3 categories:
10% will do all in their power to obey all the
laws, 10% will do all in their power to break the
laws regardless of the risk and the 80% in the
middle watch the 10% that defy the law to see what
will happen to them. If the criminals are swiftly
and justly punished, the 80% will be less likely to
take such risks, but if the 10% get away with their
crimes as is prevalent in our country, the 80% will
join them. Lawlessness will abound.
As for the first question, this is a sad but true
fact. All I can say is that if one in 10,000 suffer
falsely so that 8,000 others will live. It is
something we must endure until such a time that
technology enables us to change this. That time is
actually not far off. We have it in place at this
time, it is merely not used for this purpose at
this time. In time that will change, especially in
light of global terrorist.

The
importance of this email content has prompted me to
sent it all in my address book and news outlets
rather than just those in the Dan Galpin for
President campaign distribution list. My full email
list will not be used regularly.
The American public has been RAPED
& PILLAGED by American businesses and
our Senators & Congress has ALLOWED this to
happen while they have lined their pockets doing
what should have been done for all Americans:
receiving an automatic COLA (Cost Of Living
Adjustment). This isn't even considering how they
may have lined their pockets with backhanded deals.
They have FAILED their fiduciary duty to those they
serve. Below are a few examples:
1) 21 years ago I worked as a bank teller making
$6.00 hr. and minimum wage was about $3.50 hr.,
milk was about a dollar a gallon, a candy bar was
25 cents and at least 2.25oz and gas was about 75
cents a gallon. Today milk is near $5.00 dollars,
the candy bar is 90 cents and 1/3 the size, 1.5oz,
and gas about $3.00 per gallon. So what should that
same teller job pay today and what does it pay and
what should minimum wage be now? The bank teller
pay should be about $28 hr. and only pays about $9
per hr. occurring to my banker when I ask
her and minimum wage should be about $15.60 an hour
and is currently about $5.85 an hour. While the
cost of living has raised about 470% the paycheck
only about 50%. Meanwhile business grow richer and
richer buying up their competition and
Congress gets it's COLA automatically!
2) Just in the last 10 years a 20oz bottle of soda
has gone from about 79 cents to about $1.40. That's
about an 80% increase, has your paycheck kept up?
Congress' pay has!
3) My grandparents raised a family of 5 on one
income with money to spare for vacations, investing
and repairs; my grandfather was a construction
worker. My parents raised a family of 4 on one
income with NO money to spare. We rarely took
vacations and when repairs were needed they robbed
Peter to pay Paul. Today the average family had two
incomes and live somewhat comfortable as my
grandparents did. Only now it take TWO. If this
trend continues, this generations children will be
as my parents, strapped for cash for
routely needed repairs and they can forget the
vacations. Their children, this generations
grandchildren, will need a THIRD household income.
Where will it come from? Will they have to put
their kids to work? Congress' children and
grandchildren won't have to, their parents are paid
a COLA.
American businesses have slowly bled Americans dry
WHILE buying more companies to make MORE money and
find new ways to LOWER the American wage!
Our representatives have let them do it
and don't seem to mind! While they receive a
regular COLA, they DID NOT included this in any
Bill for American workers and in the minimum
wage legislation recently passed. We need
an immediate mandatory COLA in place for
the protection of the American worker AND an end to
allowing American jobs to go outside of
America.
We live in one of the greatest lands of the world.
We have ALL the resources needed to be
self-sufficient INCLUDING oil. Yet our government,
past and present cares more about
the wealth-fare of those outside America
than those who pay them their paychecks. This is
another example of their FAILED fiduciary duty.
I'm all for free
enterprise, capitalism, possibly even
globalization, but not by enslaving the American
workers to that of a peasant as in the
days of England's land Lords. Any society that
expects it's citizens to live honest lives and work
for a living, must pay those workers enough to
cover the basic cost of living within the society
they live. We once did that in this country before
GREED rampantly became the ruling power.
It is NO LONGER being done. We must return to a
point of self protection as a nation or we won't
really have to worry about the war on terror
because we will self collapse.
I will go one step farther: America's greatest
threat is not the terrorist, although they are a
close second; rather, both big business and
our representatives in DC who have been
working together and seemly appear to
be destroying the very nation we live in
all for GREED and POWER.

A POSITIVE SIDE TO THE PARIS HILTON
ORDEAL:
The whole Hilton ordeal has brought to the public
view something I've never understood. A crime,
whatever it is, should have a clear and
known consequence not a range of
possibilities. For example, if all DUIs, 1st
offense, where punishable by a short jail sentence,
fine and license being revoked OR whatever each
state wishes to punish the crime by, then there
would not be the accusation of special
treatment.
Therefore I propose the federal government require
each state to list one specific punishment for each
crime and even better require it to be listed on
the net. Then anyone charged with a crime, will
know exactly what the punishment will be ahead of
time, if convicted. There will be no special
treatment because the everyone, the
politician, the rich heiress, the guy next door and
the poor would know for a fact what the punishment
is. I think sometimes we as humans make things
more difficult than it needs to be. The bill
could be named in honor of Ms. Hilton: "The Paris
Hilton Act."
TWO
SIDE NOTES:
If over crowing is a problem, we could
easily analyze which crimes are being done
most and increase the harshness of those crimes to
reduce the frequency of such. AND
One very strong crime deterrent is to
eliminate the lawyer client confidentiality. As a
Real Estate Agent, if the agent doesn't tell the
buyer of a material fact, the agent can be held
liable, but a lawyer can withhold the material fact
of a crime and not be liable - rubbish! It should
be up to the criminal to be a good liar or his
guilt should be admissible in court by his
lawyer. A fair trail is the right to not get mobbed
by an angry crowd; it's not the right to hide your
guilt and/or get off because of some
technicality.

America's motto
includes the phase "united we stand," yet we are,
as a nation, far from united. This concerns me
greatly because the motto also says: "divided we
fall." Is America's end near?
I believe we are under our nations greatest threat.
We as a people are allowing both the political
system and the press divide us. We are so busy
fighting with ourselves over the issues of the day,
that we are not watching those that govern us. Just
as the early settlers were able to defeat the
indians, our nations politicians are defeating
us, selling us out to BIG business and to world
affairs. The indians could have saved their land
from the new comers if they would have united with
each other and stood firm against the invaders.
Likewise, we to can stand up and be count as
a whole. We are Americans! We have in the past
lived in harmony and we can do so in the future. If
we don't, we will lose our sovereignty to a
world political system that does not have America's
interest at heart.
Our founders did not remove themselves from England
to become one of the greatest nations on earth only
to submit ourselves to a world institution. This is
the dream of power hungry men across the global. A
dream we should awaken them from.
What can we do? VOTE INDEPENDENT; remove BOTH
Democrats & Republicans; Send Washington DC a
CLEAR message: play time is OVER! Protect Americans
not the world; strengthen America not the world and
restore financial well-being to the common
American.

America has set
the wrong tone regarding foreigners and foreign
aid.
I was told to my face by a foreigner,
"because America is rich, it is obligated
to
support poor countries." Let's just say, I set him
straight. The American government is obligated to
Americans! NOT the rest of the world and it's time
that America ENDS foreign aid if this is how our
kindness is going to be viewed. We have more than
are fair share of poor and needy within our own
country. If money is going to be spent on aiding
others, It's time to help our own rather than
non-Americans and IF after the governments bills
are paid, we have excess, then maybe it
can be used to help other nations on a case by case
basis, if not refunded to the American public.
American tax dollars should be spent in America and
on Americans NOT the rest of the world.
We are NOT the keepers of the world and it's time
to adjust foreign policy to reflect this.

back America!
Our nations founding fathers risked their lives,
their families and fortunes to create
America.
Our forefathers risked the same to preserve this
great nation over the years.
They risked too much to
let politicians destroy our country.
It's time for Americans to stand and unite, before
America is lost forever!
The
1st order of business is to cut the salaries of
those in Washington in half OR to 1.5 times the
average pay for the state they represent, which
ever is less AND only allow them to have a raise

The 2nd, is to establish
